The Soil

This prize-winning three part cappella group originally from Soweto mixes a dazzling combination of musical styles comprising of township jazz, hip hop, Afro-Soul and Afro-Pop. The music is supported by a great cadenced vocal bass and beat boxing even though the other two singers deliver the choral and polyphonic top notes. The past several years THE SOIL has been touring intercontinentally including guesting at the Apollo Theatre Harlem and performing at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Afrovibes music evenings are famed for their dynamism and great hums - this year will be no exemption!

The Soil is an award winning South African a cappella group formed in 2003.

The Soil currently consists of four members: Buhlebendalo "Soil Sister" Mda, Ntsika "Fana-tastic" Ngxanga, Luphindo "Master P" Ngxanga and Theo "Songstress" Matshoba. Theo joined the group in February 2016 as an occasional replacement for Buhlebendalo Mda. Ntsika and Luphindo are biological brothers. During interviews, The Soil usually refers to God as the first member of the group.
